Dendrocalamus giganteus also known as Giant bamboo is a gigantic large bamboo native of Southern Myanmar and N W Thailand. It can grow between 24 – 60 m tall. Its culms have a diameter 10 - 20 cm and the internodes are 40–50 cm long. It can be propagated vegetatively through culm cutting, rhizome planting, branch cutting, layering, marcotting and macroproliferation of seedlings. Propagation by tissue culture is also possible .
Habitat
D. giganteus grows in humid tropical to subtropical regions, usually on richer soils, up to 1200 m
