Uganda Bamboo Association holds 6th Annual General Meeting

 

Uganda Bamboo Association held its 6th Annual General Meeting on 28th November 2023 at the National Forestry Offices in Bugolobi under the theme "expanding bamboo resources for industrialisation ". The chief guest at the AGM was Mr. Frank Mukalazi an Official from National Forestry Authority.

The Association recorded a number of achievements from its operations for the last two years which included ; Increased collaboration with several government ministries and agencies which enhanced Uganda's potential for bilateral collaboration with the People's republic of China for developing the bamboo industry in Uganda, Planting over 51% of the 500 Hactare Bamboo plantation at Nakasongola, maintaining a database of active people and organizations working with Bamboo in uganda, building a bamboo treatment facility, Advances in the production of edible bamboo shoots, establishment of a SACCO to help members save and increase funding the association.

Mr Mukalazi commended the Association for its achievement in managing the Bamboo plantation in Nakasongola and urged them to implement the Plantation Management plan which had been developed with his professional and technical guidance.

The Secretary General of the Association, Hon. Flavia Nabugere Munaaba thanked members for patronising the Association. She informed the meeting that UBA had submittted a propoasl seeking for collaboration with the Ministray of finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of water and Environment, National Forestry Authority, and the People's republic of china for the development of small scale industries to enhance bamboo production in Uganda.
